Young children are left without their fathers – this is what knife crime does

The mum of a man who was fatally stabbed in Lakeside shopping centre has sent to a message to anyone thinking of carrying a knife.

In it, Lauretta Ugwa warns of the devastation which knife crime causes and its far-reaching consequences for the families of victims – and perpetrators’.

She has bravely decided to speak out as part of a national week of action on knife crime, named Sceptre week.

Her son, 29-year-old Michael Ugwa, was in the Lakeside food court at 4.30pm on 28 April 2022 when a chance meeting led to him being stabbed by Muhammad Khan.

Khan, of Illford, east London, and his accomplice Brandon Lutchmunsing, previously of Grafton Road, Dagenham, confronted Michael and his friends.

As the confrontation escalated Khan lunged at Michael with a knife and stabbed him under his arm, through his ribs and puncturing his heart.

Khan was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum or 27 years.

Lutchmunsing was convicted of manslaughter and affray and sentenced to 13 years.

  1. Don’t walk about in the dark in London holding your phone. Do people not learn ? You think you have a right to have your phone on show “how DARE someone dictate to me how I choose to live” yet do so without thinking of the consequences. Leave your front door unlocked at night “its my right to not feels constraint, its my right to leave it unlocked because it gives me a sense of personal freedom” (never understood that way of thinking) yet would get really angry if they were burgled. Would these people leave £500+ in notes in a bundle in full view on a cafe table ? No, yet they leave a phone on display costing similar or more for all to see. Live how you want but if you cant understand the associated risks then its your own stupid fault.

  2. If your phone is stolen the police and the network provider will want to know the IMEI number which is normally on the back of the phone or call *#06# to display on most phones.

  3. so many stupid idiots holding their phones out in front of them, hold the phone tight against your ear .
only a fool would wave a wad of cash out in front of themselves.
To many phone zombies now day's no sympathy for them !!!

  4. I work in soho, as a door supervisor (bouncer) Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights are crazy phone thieves pick pockets are everywhere. This crime is not police priority it's a joke, the amount of distraught people i see is heart breaking 😢

  5. This is the EXACT location where I had my unlocked phone snatched. It was a DELIVEROO RIDER with a blue backpack. My OCD side prepared for this "never never" event and blocked my phone remotely straight away!! Police told me – 'happens all the time' 😤🙄 what is being done about it???
