What bike is this? Restoration advice? Sorry for being completely clueless but considering getting this restored for father-in-law. Anyone know what model it is or how I’d find out specs? What kind of work / time / costs would be involved in restoration? Would the juice be worth the squeeze? Thanks

It’s a Schwinn American with the Heavy Duty option and the optional springer fork. The Heavy Duty option added stronger wheels with thicker spokes, a heavy duty front hub and a different seat. The taller handlebars and stem were added at some point. I’d be tempted to clean and polish up the existing paint and chrome as best as you can rather than a proper “restoration”.
