Tour de France, stage 20 route:
Nice to the Col de la Couillole via the Col de Braus, Col de Turini and Col de la Colmiane.
Brilliant atmosphere in Nice at the start; thousands of riders from all over the world.
First two cols were okay, and the descents were great fun – the Turini descent needed respect; fast and technical with a sheer drop to the left, there had been a couple of very nasty crashes requiring ambulances.
The Col de Colmiane climb was tough; the cumulative effect from the previous climbs started to bite. Great descent though to recover for the final climb to the Col de la Couillole which was a sufferfest, lots of riders sitting by the side of the road.
Knackered at the finish, but very happy to have taken part and being well inside the time limit.
