You got to be joking my friend great video in the 80s yes never missed a Sunday bargains everywhere now nothing worth looking at they’re sadly killed it years ago like everything else now of days the same as Newcastle town centre and Whitley bay rubbish never been to both for over 30 years
Last time i was in the quayside market was probably in the late 90s. It wasn't great back then, im back in Pomgolia next year. Perhaps we will have a wander around.
Great Video as ever . As exiles who only come now and again for football nowadays these vids are so good for memories of times gone by. I havent been on the market for a few years but back in the 80/90s i used to come up for the weekend and go see my Nana and my last chore before heading home on a weekend to Doncaster was to pop the market and go and get her some kippers . Good Memories and the modern style of the market does look lovely
Yet another good video, thank you. Your trip to Amsterdam on the “North Shields Ferry” should be interesting 🤔
When are you walking the Tyne from source to mouth which you mentioned a while back? Or have I missed it😢 Controversially perhaps, my memories of the 70’s Sunday market are of stalls selling tat 🤷🏻♂️
Oh we missed you! We were down for the match and stayed over, breakfast along the quayside at Weatherspoon’s and a walk through the market. Loved the lady’s stall making the mosaic mirrors.
Wesley square ..where you and you lass enjoyed your geordie HOT DOG..named after little Wesley Nealley the 11 year old sadly taken by a bad man ..up the west end of Newcastle over 20 Years ago…😢
Hi Eddy and Helen, Des here again, the Quayside market doesn't seem to have changed much since I was a kid, just the stores and the people. It is obviously a lot cleaner and safer than back then. My story goes back to the late 40's when I was about 8 or 9, I played hookey from Sunday school at our church (Bible education for young kids). Wandered around for a couple of hours not doing anything constructive, went back home and that was when I got into trouble. Remember this was in the day when a phone was for the rich people. It must have been ESP but my family, mainly my granny had heard about it, I got a licking from her that I still think about today. Corporal punishment was alive and well back then. Whenever I think about it, I can still feel her bony hands on my backside. Moral of the story, Don't mess with Granny. Thanks again for a beautiful memory of my Geordie chillhood.
My memories of the 70s Quayside was the magic tricks stall, where you could buy stink bombs. We'd take them to school on the Monday to annoy the teachers. Oh, and always came away with a goldfish.Cheers Ed.
Another great video showcasing our fantastic region. We went down there a couple of weeks ago with the missus and the dog for the first time in about 30 years and loved it. Will definitely be going back for some of those sausages😍 !!!!
I used to love paddy’s market in the 80s. Full of knockoff Rubik’s cubes, Casio calculator watches, Geordie jeans, walkie-talkies and other stuff to spend me pocket money on! Oh and gourmet Westlers tinned hamburgers!
Hey, make sure you wave when you pass the High Light and the Fish Quay on the ferry! There’s always people seeing off the big ferry and cruises, we all like to wave 👋 😊
Only been to the Newcastle market once a long time ago, I used to also go to the Tynemouth market and I’ve heard the South Shields market is back, maybe? Markets are fun, I love to find little treasures

It’s no where near as big and as good as it was in the 80’s and 90’s, it was amazing back then.
Love the Quayside, it's on my visit list when I fly home for Xmas.

I used to go to the Quayside Market in the 70s and 80s
I think people from the region just take things for granted and don't appreciate things when it's on your doorstep
I thought the market had stopped , never knew it was back time educate the grandkids now then , cheers for the info
Another class video mate. Keep it up 👍🏻
