In the Second World War the Germans invaded the Netherlands in 1940 and annexed it to their expanding Reich. This is well known. But did you know that after the end of the war, the Netherlands tried to annex part of Germany and make it Dutch?

So in this video, what if the Netherlands actually did this? How different would the world look?

Music Used:
1812 Overture – Tchaikovsky
Eine Kleine Nachtmusik – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Hungarian Rhapsody – Franz Liszt
William Tell Overture – Rossini

  1. Money doesn't buy us land. The Netherlands has to fuse with Germany to survive. No carbon dioxide problems, housing problems, farming problems. Netherlands should have taken land

  2. Didn't the allies (the english if i remember correctly) have a plan to deindustrialise germany that would have lead to widespread starvation. The soviets didn't treat eastern europe that differently with shuffeling borders and peoples around. In the context of that time, the plan wasn't all that crazy

  3. Then I would live somewhere else probably if I would exist at all. 😬 But very interesting video because I read about the whole thing for a university presentation few years ago.

  4. My ideal post-war "Germany" after ww2 (I'm German) :

"Germany. The Failure of a Nation"

    Greater Netherlands / Gross-Niederlande / Groot-Nederland
    – Netherlands Proper
    – Belgium
    – Hesse
    – Luxemburg
    – Lower Saxony / Hamburg-Harburg
    – Palatinate
    – Rhineland
    – Saarland
    – Westphalia

    Greater Denmark / Gross-Dänemark / Stordanmark
    – Denmark Proper
    – Schleswig-Holstein
    – Hamburg

    Greater Swizerland / Gross-Schweiz / Grande-Suisse / Grande Svizzera
    – Swiss Cantons
    – Austria
    – Baden
    – Liechtenstein
    – Württemberg-Hohenzollern

    Prussia / Preussen / Pruska
    – Berlin-Brandenburg
    – Anhalt
    – Mecklenburg
    – Pomerania
    – Saxony
    – Thuringia

  5. 100% should have annexed more of Germany. To hell with their feelings, the plan was by no means ridiculous. They took our land and plundered it for all they could. And to let them get of with it all was a disgusting stab in the back to the Dutch who fought for the allied cause through the entire war. The german people stood and picked their nose when their crazy leaders bombed Rotterdam, and caused famine. The suggestion that a demand for compensation at their cost would be "unfair" is laughable, they should be the last people in the world to dictate to anyone about "fair" and "reasonable".

  6. The Netherlands should have reunitied with Belgium and Lexumbourg after the 1 WOrld War. They also should have annexed the belgian Congo. The United Kingdom of Netherlands should also have annexed West germsn territorys after the 1. and the 2. World Wars. The Kingdom of Denmark should also have been anexing Shleswig-Holstein completly. Bavaria should also have gotten its independence back as a socialist peoples Republic and part of the eastern block. Eastern Austria or the entirety of austria shpuld have been a socialist peoples republic and part of the eastern block. North Italy, North Greece, Vichy-France, Catalonia, Baskcountry, Ireland, Finnland North Japan, North Persia and Spain should also have been socialst peoples republics.

  7. Sometimes when you ask for something it's reasonable to start with a high bid and then you meet somewhere in the middle ending up with a good deal. But when your bid is unreasonable high, you're not considered serious and end up with nothing.

I think it would be very reasonable if the Netherlands had at least got something after the losses. Almost all neighbouring countries got something. The area around Emmerich – Kleve – Goch would have provided a better geographical shape with quite some area but not too much inhabitants. But France, UK, US and SU didn't care. They dropped more bombs in the Netherlands than the Germans anyway. So like most small European countries it was just considered collateral damage and the four big countries went away with all the trophies.

  8. 😂, wonderful idea..
We would had more of this strange Dutch fast food and maybe we wouldn't have needed this weird green party now to legalize weed.
Really this is the best idea I heard today 🤣

  9. At 2:06 Mönchengladbach, which name until 1963 was Münchengladbach is written wrong with another "g". And at 3:33 you say, that Tüddern came back to Germany in 1960, but it was in 1963, when several annexed municipalities were given to the FRG 🇩🇪.

  10. Looking at the potential dutch province of "saksen" – as if having sachsen, sachsen-anhalt and niedersachsen wasnt already complicated enough lol

They could have at least had the decency to give it a more precise name (i vote for neder-neder-saksen)

  11. my grandpa told stories on how the soldiers were protecting our border on bicycles up to the point where they got the message of our surrender, completely missing the message that the invasion had even begun. I now imagine those 12 soldiers going into germany on those cycles

either way, good thing we didn't, in this timeline I couldn't cycle over the border to get cheap cigarettes

  12. As it is Holland is more or less a German dominion. Maybe German influence would be even stronger with all the new citizens, or maybe western Germany would have folded and be annexed by Czech Poland and other countries

  13. Man, I never knew we had so much questionable reasoning and ethics shortly after WW2. I wish I could ask my grandfather what he thought of the situation back then.

  14. It would’ve honestly been better if the Dutch government at the time pursued for Dutchification instead of mass expulsion, the Allie’s would’ve probably be more favorable and now the country would be stronger

  15. A joke surely as they didn't have an army to take any of it as they were totally dependent on the US , UK and Canadian forces to get liberated themselves

  16. what if after ww2 and the lowlands were liberated instead of becoming three independent states.. the benelux would decide to become one country once again. out of a mutual intrest for savety
