We are strangers tour 2024
A long duration performance
A group of performance artists (Padungsak Kochsonmrong (Toi) Thailand; Paul Siemt, Germany; Antonio Irre, Italy; Monika Weber and Andreas Hoffmann, Tübingen, Germany will be travelling from Tübingen to Venice on bicycles and developing the project further in Thailand. This performance thematises ‘being foreign’ – an attempt is made to express different aspects of being foreign in play, action and rituals. Are we strangers everywhere? But am I a stranger, even if I have been in this place for a long time? How long have I been a stranger? How does being a stranger express itself? Who decides who is a stranger?

The daily ritual – mingling

The daily ritual – mixing
Each companion of the TourPerformance brings a volume of soil from his/her home town. At the 1st station of the day, this home soil is mixed with the same volume of soil from the 1st station of the day. Half of the mixed soil remains at the first station. The second half is divided among the travelling companions and taken to the 2nd day station.
Day station with them. There, the soil is mixed with soil from the 2nd day station. One half remains there, the other half is divided up and taken to the 3rd day station by the companions, etc.
The mixing, dividing and depositing of the soil always follows the same ritual. After the mixing of the earth at the 10th day station (Venice), the earth finds its final place and serves a new growth.
The day performance – attitudes of being a stranger
The day performance can be in the public space of a city or community through which our tour takes us. It can be in an art venue. It can take place on the route in the countryside without an audience.
Being a stranger has many faces. Real faces, feelings, opinions, relationships, places, attitudes, stories. We want to collect attitudes, opinions and stories from people before and during our tour. These texts are part of our daily performances.
