Given the increase in clouds last evening, we were happy that the sun was shinning when we emerged from our tents.
Spent a semi-leisurely morning having breakfast and enjoying the views from our high camp in Exmoor before leaving our camp at around 9:30.
The ride down to Winsford was a blast, however the second breakfast that we thought we might get there did not materialize…so on we rode through a lovely, forested valley…so nice in fact that I missed our cutoff, which we fortunately realized and corrected before too long. The ride to Bishops Lydeard was very nice…high up on a road overlooking our first glimpses of the Bristol Channel….and upon leaving that town, we road took us back up into the Quintock Hills providing very nice views before descending into Bridgewater… the largest town we’d see that day. After a break and resupply…and getting turned around again, we continued on to the campground we booked earlier in the afternoon; Castle Farm Campsite, just short of our intended destination, Cheddar. We were pleasantly surprised when we opened the gate to the campsite to find a familiar resident that was waiting there for us…

  1. If I had to bet money any bike shop in the country would have had the pannier spares you wanted on the shelf: It would have been SJS cycles in Bridgewater and you rode straight through town!

    Bishops Lid-e-ard is pronunciation 😉

  2. We’ve had a bug shortage for a few years now in the U.K. People are being surveyed for for bugs on windscreens, there’s real concerns.

  3. Bugs have disappeared to a scary extent the last few years in the UK – it's a virtually unspoken of problem. I grew up close to where you are at the end of the video- curious to see if you take the Strawberry Line from Cheddar, or tackle the climb up the gorge over the Mendips. I've only ever cycled down it!
