I think this is very good advice for beginners and even those with some running experience. It's a long process and the only way that you'll reach the goals that you want to hit in the future is to start slow, build slow, and have patience and trust in that process. When I started in my junior year, I couldn't imagine doing anything crazy like a sub-20 5k or a half marathon. Now, I am a high school senior with an 18:55 5k PB with plans of attempting to break 1:30 for the half. It took me only a little over a year to get down from a 24:46 at the start of my journey. With the right training, healthy habits, commitment, and trust in yourself, you'll go a very long way before you know it.
