Newer to bike mechanics and seeking advice on this Miyata Triton bike. I picked it up simply because it caught my eye. It’s my size and has a nice wheel set. I know it’s a lower end model but I see the potential.
With a little work I think it would be a fun bike for casual rides. Does anyone have any positive input or suggestions?

Looks like a nice starting point, not much needed to make it usable. Cool wheels. I recommend servicing the wheel bearings for peace of mind. Fit the largest tires you can for comfort/better capacity for bad roads, check the chain and cassette. That stem looks very high. I’d use flat or double sided spd pedals. Enjoy!
remove the secondary hand brakes. Depending on your metro, quick-release wheels still get stolen even if your bike is locked while you jump in a shop at 3PM on a Tuesday.
It probably had an aluminum seatpost in there before, so see if you can sand out any corrosion inside the tube before putting your (well greased/antiseize applied) new seatpost in.
This bike is awesome and it accelerated good. I have it for 2 months now and I got it for $30, Just restore it, you dont need to upgrade because the stock component are very reliable, that old suntour alone was so good that itt made shifting gear very smooth. If you plan to upgrade just throw a carbon fiber saddle, seat post “26.8 is the size”, a 2-1 clipless and flat pedal then a carbon fiber handlebar at it. I have a Cervelo R3 but i rode this more often now going to work, i just love that classic look, i covered the frame with a black faux carbon fiber tape that you can get in amazon, it made it look so nice and shiny.
