Put some new cables/housing on this Specialized Hard Rock. Also threw on a cruiser-style handlebar and new grips. I’m not crazy about the wheels, they are pretty clunky. My plan is to slowly upgrade the wheels, shifters, derailleurs, and crank set, so pretty much everything.
The grips are too long, so I need some ‘short’ style ones to accommodate a better brake/shifter position. Also having trouble with the indexing on the front shift mechanism, it does not want to shift to the big chainring no matter how hard I work to adjust the limiters, cable tension, derailleur position, etc. Not exactly a big issue right now because my wife barely rides and would never go into the big ring anyways!
Felt good to get my hands dirty again, I miss working at a bicycle shop. Feel free to critique, I know that the cable housing setup might be a little too long….This thing rides awesome for a 1993 bicycle.

I’m confused here, shouldn’t the front shifter cable be running down the non drive side and the rear be running down the drive side of the downtube?
Otherwise looks good. We have a guy at the co-op with the same color hardrock and got a pink tire for the front and purple for the back.

Those shorties look quite new. Why didn’t you go with a pair of v’s and appropriate levers?
