I was very silly and got a free coaster for my first proper Bmx having not learnt how to get out of a fakie (or even do one). But I liked how silent it was and not having to pedal backwards. So with no pedal pressure or brakes it has taken me a ridiculous amount of time to get to where I am now. I’m so insanely proud of myself for sticking with it, even after a year and half of failure. Anyway long story short I recently figured it out late on night, at first doing a little hop to help the back wheel around and then this evening, somehow figuring out the momentum to perfectly spin around with just the front wheel… It truly is crazy how quickly you progress once you finally get it, it’s like your brain goes “damn I didn’t know we could do that! I’ll allow it now”. Here are my first recorded clips of getting out the fakie and then the most recent ones from this evening which were so much smoother and consistent. I’m sure you guys can understand how exciting and great it feels, but no one around me really understands because it doesn’t look very hard. I’ll take any advice happily on ways to improve and get it looking slicker and more consistent. (Also apologies for my high pitched celebration, I was tired, delirious and had planned on giving up so It was a very pleasant surprise.)

Not sure if this helps but I find it easier to half cab (reverse 180 jump) with more speed as in doing an actual 180 landing backwards and then naturally pushing on your cranks makes you jump up and 180 again cause I can do that perfectly but doing what you’re showing in this video even I struggle to do that cause it’s not enough speed going backwards, no joke I look just like you most of the time going up to a curb and trying to ride backwards it’s just not enough speed to help me keep my balance going backwards. Not saying that what you’re doing is useless but even I someone who loves half cabbing out of 180s struggles to do that very thing mainly cause I haven’t built up that balance and no freecoaster but also cause I cant push off to get enough speed to really pop out and half cab
Learn that with freecoaster is a lot harder than a cassette, you have the skills dude! Big congrats on your progress, try to keep you stoked
It takes a while for the brain to allow it, did for me as well! soon you will be doing more!
Awesome!
