Did you know that when cars are launched in a drag race, their tires get wrinkled? You see, dragsters are some of the fastest accelerating machines globally, producing up to 11,000 horsepower. To put that into perspective, it’s more than 12 F1 cars combined. They use specialized soft tires with low air pressure to maximize grip. When they are launched with that immense torque, the tires undergo some serious wrinkling, causing the diameter to shrink by 8 inches. What’s even more impressive is that as they pick up speed, their tires actually expand due to centrifugal force

  1. Top fuel/funny cars are an engineering marvel. 330MPH in 3-4 seconds. The next class down is pro stock and they turn 3,000 horsepower with naturally aspirated dodge hemiโ€™s on alcohol. My wheelhouse is sprint car racing, we win the worldโ€™s HP/power ratio at 975 HP in a 1250lb car which is inherently fucked but these guys are fucking insane. I cannot imagine for a second being behind the wheel of a 13,000 HP monster.

  2. my theory is that the car is a powerful motor and if the tire air is full its will start doing burnout because of the weight of the engine and the power start

  5. My father use to drag race. And every time we had to go to those goddamn things what amazed me the most was seeing people in the bleachers who actually paid money to see that shit. It was so boring. Itโ€™s a few seconds race in between minutes and minutes of hold time. And the winner really isnโ€™t determined by the race. The winner is determined by which team did the best preparation before the race, e.g., how hot/sticky they got their tires from the burnout prior, i.e., was it too hot or not enough?
