Somehow the metal on the back of my Shimano SPD pedals broke off, I got new cleats and it did this when I was unclipping I guess.

My question is A: would you continue to use this pedal? I figure I could always use the other side that is not broken, I can still clip in and out like normal on the broken side also.

Question B: how the hell does this even happen? These pedals are like 6 months old tops.

Any insight is appreciated.

I’d probably still ride it, though that tension screw might get up loosing itself over time. Could see that sort of damage happening from a real hard pedal strike, is this a MTB?

  2. Where do you live and do you keep your bike outside?

They shouldn’t look like that after 6 months, but I’ve seen people ride MUCH worse
