If your outer cable run is a tad too long in some sections or it looks like you’ve got a lot of slack in the outer, then you could trim the outer down by a bit. Thus reducing the length that the inner cable has to travel – meaning a bit more will stick out.

If it works, don’t worry about it. Cables stretch and it’s certainly not going to get any shorter.
