  1. I found a dog name tag (from a collar) in the middle of a gravel trail. About another 5 is down the trail I ran into a woman and her dog. I asked, “your dog isn’t called “Rex” is it? Turns out it was his dog tag.

  2. Once I came across a backpack, I checked it because I was near a school and figured I could drop it off and hopefully make it back to the owner. I opened it up and there were clothes inside full of shit, vomit, and bugs. I noped out of there and said I would never try to be a stand up citizen again.

  3. Tools. Cell phones. A working pair of noise cancelling headphones. Cash. A couple sets of keys that included car keys.

  4. My friend talked me into doing a tour in Brown County I *swore* I’d never do again. Hot, kinda ugly terrain, and a stop sign before every hill. We got a bit ahead of our group, so we pulled of to the side to regroup.

    My friend noticed a kitten!

She did rescue, and realized the poor guy got dumped. I sat and played with him, while my friend arranged for a car to pick him up and take him to the start. I called my wife to see if we could bring him home.

    My six months pregnant wife.

She agreed (“My maternal instinct kicked in–I couldn’t leave a baby!”). I brought him home, and he was my best friend until he passed away after seventeen years.

  5. I found a $20 bill on a ride through the San Mateo County coast. Since it was free money I ended up donating it to the Bike Hut when I stopped there on my way up Tunitas Creek Road.

A DiNotte bike tail light. The mount was broken but I just used some JB Weld to fix it to a cheap reflector mount. The thing is stupidly bright and it still serves me well some 6-7 years later.

  7. I found a ripped-open empty evidence bag during the late ’80s near the border of Belgium and West Germany. Ended up giving it to a friend who was making an indie film and used it as a prop.

I found a pair of Dr Dre beats earphones. New in the box. This was a few years ago when they were super popular.

  9. I found a (2)bike rack that clips onto the boot of your car! And myself staring at a meth pipe with meth in it… for the longest red light of my life.

I have that knife, and yes, I found it on the street. The measure of a good knife is how it responds to being dropped from a moving vehicle, run over, and left in the rain.
