  1. Great video Fergus, I've been slack with training the last 6 months and recently signed up to a 50k in Sept 25 and have got a running training plan and it's helped me get back to my running, which has helped me mentally and helped me be a better father and husband. Keep the good videos coming

  2. I ran my first 18 miler today in preparation for my first 50K. My hat’s off to marathoners and ultra runners. It’s tough work. I could have quit, but discipline kept me going.

  3. If you say what you mean and mean what you say, and you always follow through with what you say you are going to do, that makes you somebody that is deemed faithful, or trustworthy. It takes discipline to keep promises, even if your feelings try to change your mind.

Cowards take the easy way out, but real men, men that are faithful and honorable, they will always make the right choice

  4. Running a half marathon this Sunday and been following the half-hypertrophy plan. Been feeling really good about it and just wanted to say thanks for the motivation and tips on discipline. Your videos have really helped recently! Hope you win your wrestling match with your reason why

  5. I'm 45 old guy who works in shifts and have several back issues, arthritis in my hands and weird condition that sometimes leads to awful pain even when I body squat. This summer I did 40k trail race with 2k elevation, without proper preparation. I just walk alot during the day, having active dog. After that, I realised I got prone to finding excuses for not being more active, which I always have been. Can't lift, my hands are hurting, can't lift, my back hurts, or knees are flared up, I worked late all week, too tired… All are legitimate reasons, but it won't get any better. Just worse. So I started lifting weights 3x a week, full body (lucky for me that I have squat rack, adjustable bench, barbell and weights in my apartment, covid time decision). I try to run 2-3 times a week, I walk alot like I did before this decision… Trying to get a habit of being active. Motivation comes and goes, but habits are different beast. Now, if I miss my weight session, I feel bad, even though I know I did two good full body sessions in a week, and I'll do one I failed to do tomorrow. I know this is short sample of just several months, compared to others, but I have to start somewhere and it's becoming part of my lifestyle. So, my reason why: I don't like a person who I have become, I hate finding excuses. I'm active person and I want to stay active hopefully deep in my later years. I'm building a foundation now, for something I'll cash in in 20 years. As for meditation part, people should start running /walking /biking without headphones. One of the reasons I go to run is to clear my head, different kind of clarity… Great video Fergus

  6. Brilliant video Fergus. Love the honesty on all levels of what you touched on. I was in the middle of your S&C Marathon plan (October BH weekend in Dublin) but I damaged my meniscus and have surgery this Thursday. I found the plan really really good and was loving the variety it brought. I'm hoping to do the Majorca 70.3 in May so will be buying your plan for sure.
Keep up the good work 💪

  7. As someone who consistently sets massive (arguably too big…..) challenges for myself, I needed to hear this. Small wins lead to big changes. Thanks for all you do Fergus.

  8. I go through phases of discipline and no motivation every couple months or so. Not so much training, Im consistent with that because I've just done it so long (15 uears at this point) but diet, reading, tidying up, cleaning, being productive at work, seem to all go hand in hand. It'll go like – skip reading one night, watch a couple youtube videos during the day when i should be working, leave the washing for tomorrow, go to bed too late etc. Then one day i might read a chapter before bed, which makes me feel better, and makes me sleep better, which makes me want to work harder at work the next day, which motivates me to clean when i get home, so the next night i go to bed early and read 2 or 3 chapters before bed, etc. Then eventually ill fall out of good habits again for a little while.

  9. I started watching this… halfway through started cleaning my living room while i listened… finished the video and watched it again.

I've worked since i was 9… 2-3 jobs since i was 17. I worked in emergency services, shift work, have NUMEROUS chronic illnesses, and very little disposable income. 😂 (Nailed it!) But I look at others who have it worse (easy to do in my line of work) and was so motivated to overcome my own challenges.

I busted butt and started my dream business at 41, while shifting from road 5ks to trail 50ks… i love the challenge, the pressure, realizing that though many would be horrified at my 65 hour work weeks and huge goals, i was working towards being the person i wanted to be, living the life i wanted to live.

Flash forward 4 years… my business is successful, I've run multiple ultras and difficult mountain races, my chronic issues are under control, my finances are in the brink of good… and I'm lost.

Yes, I can sign up for longer races, grow my business, set other goals… but I think I've burned myself out getting here. I've now got a rare condition where if my blood pressure spikes, my body can respond with a heart attack. (MINOCA)

The saying you mentioned, about the meaning of life being to enjoy the passage of time, hit hard. It's time to reevaluate. Little is known about MINOCA other than it'll likely kill me early. It's time to start making changes so that i can find more enjoyment in the passage of time, since that time is possibly short. I think I'll start with the exercise you mentioned- writing down who I DON'T want to be! Thank you for this video. It was my coffee shop moment.
