Today, we take a trip on the Belgian AM96 train. With its strange rubber front design, it certainly stands out, but despite its unusual appearance, this design is actually very clever. So, join me on this journey from Antwerp Central to find out why this is an amazing design.

  1. The AM-96 is also known as a Danish nose. But you missed the most interesting of Antwerpen Centraal. It is close to the zoo and smack in the middle of the jewish quarter. A pity you did not go all the way to Ieper as it's a very interesting historical town.

  2. I hate trains without compartments. I fill like I would be in a tram or subway. Horrible! I avoid these type of train cars as much as possible. Anyway, I like the video. The initial station look amazing!

  3. I prefer the M7 trains myself … much more space for bikes, double decker so usually not over capacity, even during rush hour, and not that incredibly steel heavy furniture that the AM 96 has.

  4. I used to take this train for years, when I was a network engineer for Alcatel Bell / Alcanet. Alcatel Bell became Alcatel-Lucent, now Nokia Bell Labs Antwerp. That building is seen at 04:59 just behind the red banner. This company near the end of 90's was famous for bringing ADSL broadband to many homes. These trains are much more quiet compared to the older AM80 SNCB, which are horribly noisy and on hot days, the ventilation is not enough and opening the windows makes everything far worse.

  5. weird title and thumbnail for this video, I expected to hear something in dept about the design but this is seemingly a generic travel vlog video that has two surface level mentions about the teased design?

  6. Never thought I'd hear a danish guy call these flat-nosed trains strange, as Denmark has nearly twice the amount of IC3 and they make up a much larger proportion of DSB's rolling stock.
Hope you enjoyed your trip in Belgium!

  7. Quite funny and unusual to see the exact train and almost the exact route I always take covered in a train video on youtube! I definitely enjoyed the video

  8. There are in fact more power outlets, you can see them right before exiting a 2nd class space on the top left of the door, right over the luggage rack. Yes that's the only place where you can sit down and have a cable hanging over your head to charge your phone

  9. These are very good and very comfortable and have been used for over 25 y. . Is this not called a Swedish design ? The retractable cabin makes it easy to put the portions of train together . These are widely used !

  10. That rubber design isn't weird, a lot of trains use it or something very similar to link train cars. The way it's used here is quite uncommon outside of Belgium and Denmark though
