We cycled the Hebridean Way in Scotland, a 185 mile cycling route that traverses 10 islands in the Outer Hebrides. We enjoyed the route despite the notoriously challenging weather, with winds nearing 50 mph and quite a bit of rain. We made a stop at the Callanish standing stones and got to see seals and quite a few deer. We began this video in Glasgow, cycled to Oban, took a ferry to Castlebay, then finished the route in Stornoway.

  1. Hello, great trip! Can I ask about your experiences with the horizontal slide out and the rohloff hub? I'm interested in this kind of set-up. Thank's for the wonderful video's! Greetings from Belgium.

  2. Indeed a beautiful place. In nearby Isle of Skye, I recall getting some sheep rugs.
Thank you for the video post and all the hard work !

  3. I really enjoy watching your videos. They always seem to have such a “Chill” quality. Maybe it’s the music. Another thing I like is that Jenny’s rear paniers are always perfectly closed. I bet that Hilleberg tent came in handy during all that wind and rain at minute 10:00! Should have just slept in those beds at minute 12:30. So you’re headed to Oslo? Can’t wait to see which stops in between, Germany by any chance? Take care, RheinKing!

  4. Beautiful place – enjoying following you both!
Admittedly, your pronunciation of names is amusing 👍
I’m always shouting at the screen whenever you say ‘route’ or ‘buoy’ though! 😜😜😜

  5. Very nice video. We cycled the Outer Hebrides, Isle of Skye, etc. in 1984. On Harris the rains fell almost horizontally so it looks like conditions haven’t changed much. Lewis was spectacular. Did you need or ask for permission to camp?

  6. That windy wet camping spot! Yeckk. Your tent looks very similar to shape and size to the one we used for our European cycle trip. Great having a bigger tent.

  7. I did it the other way round in 2012. Ferry from Skye to Tarbert then Stornoway, then south from there to Castlebay where I took the ferry to Oban. Great place. I was there a bit earlier in the year: July.

  8. Hi. Can I ask what month you were there please? We are planning a 2023 visit and would be interesting to put a month to this weather – thanks 😊

  9. I’m thinking of doing the Hebridian way this year, though not camping!) so loved this video. Definitely south to north looks like the way to go (especially after seeing you battle against the wind going south on your next leg!). What are the midges like when you’re actually cycling? I know, from experience, when you’re walking you can outpace them 😅
