Currently own a giant escape 3 and find it’s too bumpy on the streets and light bike trails around where I live. Was thinking a mtb would be something that would help but after rest riding a few at some local bike shops, I found them to be too heavy and slow. Even tried the a few cross country(giant xtc slr 2 and trek x caliber 8), and although they were faster than the other mtb I tested, they still felt heavy and sluggish and I have no intentions of riding on mtb trails or jumping of any sorts.

Seems expensive for a flat bar bike. What am I missing here?
Maybe a gravel bike is what you seek?
Cues 9 speed at this price point, road bike tax seems to extend to flat bars now too…
I just paid less for a new XC MTB and that included a 12sp Deore and a RockShox Recon fork.
What tires do you have on your bike, width, pressure, rider+bike weight? Could you put wider tires on?
It’s an ok bike. Wife bought one two weeks ago.
But yes it sicks they went from Deore xt to cues and kept the price point the same. But that’s what you actually get with most manufacturers.
My thought is its missing a few parts, especially for that price, mudguards and a front derailleur mostly.
