Well done for 2000 subscribers Rob. What a wonderful country experience for your children. There’s nothing like racing round a property on your pushbike or having fun with the family dog. I’m sure future people moving to France will appreciate your tips on moving
To all your lovely French subscribers, there is a great English teacher on YouTube. He is English and teaches in a French school https://www.youtube.com/@MonsieurProff
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 you and me both Rob I’m no DIY er more of GSI er but learning on the job just built MK111 terrace and even though I bought all my tools from the uk which doubled up on everything that I bought for our french house when it was a holiday home + everything I’ve bought since 🤣🤣🤣🤣my garage looks like your workshop, I have exactly the same problem I say a word like ete, summer, look at me like nope dont understand, then they say ahhhh eteeee yeah that’s what I said 10 times 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I do struggle with the right pronunciation are you with EDF it’s Ed de f as fast as you can in french, but always try try try again, love our lives here look forward to the next one ….. Pete🇫🇷 Sarah’s ugly half 😂 I have pushed the bell
The french can't say 'reward' and 'clothes'. Your conversation about words sounds exactly like my wife and me. I say something. She has no clue what I said. We finally work it out and she corrects me. It sounds exactly like I said it!!
Well done on 2k mucker #beenheresince<10 click delay click
You presented some very useful information about the tools one needs to live in rural France. After spending a lot of time in Tuscany over the last 30 years language, proficiency is probably also very important. The more you can converse with the local people, the better your life will be. I have used the Babbel, classes, Rosetta Stone and a lot of times spent in the local bar.
You certainly learn skills that you never thought you were capable of doing, once you decide to do it yourself.😊 I can't believe Lisa did Scotch eggs… I just made some a few days ago😅, feeling welcome in France was quite a concern for us too. We found our French villagers more than welcoming, which relieved the anxiety. We don't have very many expats in our village. When we first came we thought we were the only ones, to find out that there were 3 expat residing and 1 with a holiday home. It was lovely to see Sir John Luke chasing the children. Animals are great friends ❤
Best video yet Rob. Love the garage detail and have lawnmower envy now!
Great to meet you briefly today Rob. Hope you enjoyed your meal by the river. Like you we’re loving living here in France and enjoying trying to learn the language (however slow our progress may be!) All the best. Dave.
I taught myself Portuguese in the pandemic when I was between PT and FR as a retirement destination. France won out for many reasons, not the least due to PT tanking their retirement VISA. Learning the guttural R/H sound was the toughest thing – but now that I am learning French? SO much easier! I think back on my 2012 French lessons in advance of coming to the TdF that year and cringe. Great video!
It's one of the things that is giving me slight concerns – I look at Duo and Babbel everyday and I've gone from knowing no french to being able to order a milky coffee😊😊 I'm a cabinet maker – I'm not looking forward to ordering timber – but I'm going to try!!!😅😅
Squirrel comes from French 'esquirel' (I'm French) : "agile, active arboreal rodent with pointed ears and a long, bushy tail," early 14c. (late 12c. as a surname), from Anglo-French esquirel, Old French escurueil "squirrel; squirrel fur" (Modern French écureuil), from Vulgar Latin *scuriolus, diminutive of *scurius "squirrel," variant of Latin sciurus, from Greek skiouros "a squirrel," literally "shadow-tailed," from skia "shadow" (see Ascians) + oura "tail," from PIE root *ors- "buttocks, backside" (see arse). Perhaps the original notion is "that which makes a shade with its tail," but Beekes writes that this "looks like a folk etymology rather than a serious explanation." The Old English word was acweorna, which survived into Middle English as aquerne." English is French very bad pronounced (1066).
Congratulations on 2000+ subscribers Rob! 👏🎉. Well deserved! Thanks for another very enjoyable video (and those scotch eggs 😍😋)😁
If you ask my wife and daughter, I can barely speak English, let alone learning a whole new language. Proud of you for your determination for it all of your effort. Did she walk her bike down the entire hill? That is adorable. The better question is, did you have to walk it back up the hill? I tried and I think I pulled a muscle. LOL Laterzz!!
I found if I could not make my self understood I would take a picture on google lol and I tend to listen to French radio in the car nice video again cheers doug
One of your best mate!!!
Superb real world advice !
Like you say i have noticed the French people really do accept you easily if you make an effort with the language, the only negatives we get is through YouTube to be honest and compared to all the positive comments we get from French people welcoming us it is really marginal and i just started to delete them instantly. Id rather pull ourselves up to the positive people!
Aww I just love that chicken sucking dog, he’s an absolute loveable nutter.
Congrats on reaching over two thousand subscribers I am enjoying the laid back content 👍 🐿️😊
I suggest adding a chipper , shredder to your smallholder kit.
Hi Rob, French subscriber here. Keep the good work, you are doing great !! keep trying to engage in French with your neighbours, it shows good will and in return French people are more than happy to help you with every day vocabulary and pronunciation. I spent some time in England when I was much younger and my English was VERY basic and I spoke with a terrible accent but I kept trying to engage in conversation with English people. they were very nice to me and extremely patient. besides it was good laugh for them and for me. In a word, don't be shy, if you show people you are trying hard and doing your best, they will help you with the language. Then if you want to cut corners and dig deeper in the language to feel more comfortable, don't hesitate taking French language lessons with a teacher. I know there are special courses with different levels for English immigrants. A bit like going back to school but in very casual and kind way. The more you engage with your French neighbours, the better for your language skills . keep it up, it's worth it for your new life as your confidence will grow . good job with "écureuil ", by the way, my English friends still smile at me when I say "clothes" or "crisps" in a conversation ! lol love your videos , please feel welcome over here, you and your lovely family .all the best. Didier
Congratz on your 2000 followers! Great achievement! We found the part of the pronunciation of the French words really funny! Also being from the Netherlands trying to speak French isn't easy as well, but we keep practicing. 😀
E. Leclerc is for Édouard Leclerc.
But everybody in France use only last name.
When spelling L'éclair it is meaning lightning.
Ask the French to say 'smoothie' – 'smoosie' 🤣
J’adore !
