What the title says.. I can’t seem to find a bike that can handle everything. I’m totally ready to pull the trigger, and purchase but nothing seems to hit every need on the list.

Me- 207lbs

Dog- 65lbs

Trailer- 35lbs

Bike (average)-30lbs

Riding on paved road (uphill, often)

Edit:

The bike I want

The text making me think twice about the purchase-
“Weight limit – 275 lbs max combined weight (rider, bicycle, and any cargo)”

Any guidance here would be super helpful.

P.S.- I don’t want an e-bike

  1. I believe you are overthinking the weight limit on the bikes. The bike will only be supporting you and the trailer will support the dog. So there shouldn’t be any issues. As for bikes I can’t make a recommendation without knowing much more, such as terrain and budget. But many options do exist.

  2. Since you mentioned “uphill often”, focus on the gearing being low enough instead of if the bike can handle the weight. There’s some math involved if you want to figure out how much weight will be supported by the bike at any given time, but as others have mentioned, the bike isn’t holding the entire weight of the trailer and your dog.

Are you hitching the trailer to the rear axle or the seat post?

I have towed two kids (<100lbs combined+35lb trailer) using an axle mounted Chariot trailer on all kinds of terrain with a Surly Cross Check and an old Specialized Hardrock with no issues. Just make sure to use the correct axle mounting setup for that internal geared hub bike you posted if you go that route.

  3. It doesn’t work that way.

People have been doing this for decades. It’s easy. It’s already been invented.

Purchase trailer, install on bike, insert dog, go for ride.

You aren’t going to break anything.
