A little. That’s more just meant to protect chain from hits.
If your pants get stuck in there, it actually might be harder to pull them out because of the guard.

Not necessarily, they still can get caught on things and it’s exactly why we all stopped riding baggy jeans in the early 2000’s.

I made the mistake of wearing some baggier jeans for a ride just last week. About ten times, my pants leg got hooked on the end of the crank arms and kind of tipped me off.
And those are crank arms that don’t even have collar bolts.
Don’t do it. Getting chewed into the chain is only one problem.

Don’t chance it, they could get caught on the sprocket. If you don’t want to wear skinny jeans, go with slim straight. Back when I bmxed I wore Levi’s 514 and 511. The 508 if I’m not mistaken (Taper fit) might be a good option, they’re skinny in the legs and relaxed on the upper part.

If you must, tuck your jeans into your sock. Like a dorky bike commuter. (Me.)

Anybike you can ride with baggy pants if you get a velcro band and sinch it to your leg

Guarded sprocket helps but it won’t solve all your problems. How baggy are we talking? You won’t have an issue with pants like heavies/polar big boys because they’re slightly tapered (slimmer towards the ankle) so you won’t have a bunch of fabric flapping in the wind.

as someone who wears exclusively baggy pants, i rarely get my pants leg caught in the sprocket, more so in my back wheel than anything. even then its a rare occurrence but itll happen more in one day than others
