If you enjoyed yourself then you’re doing it right.
No right or wrong way. Safety is the only real concern. Dress / pack for the conditions and head out.
Now that being said there is hard and then there’s easy depending on the type of equipment you take and your base of knowledge but the prime answer to your question is just go; get out there.
