Your bike shop may have gotten that right. That looks like an Accordo. 1967-1973, as Tange Champion No. 5 was discontinued after that. Hi-Ten fork, before they went 4130. The lugs have the same pattern as Nishikis and some Miyatas, too.

Bottle mounts on CT & DT points to early 80s

I’m as stumped as everyone else, but I’d like to add that this is a really dreamy bike. I adore 1980s geometry and materials, and the triple and cantis are fantastic.

I saw a Bike exactly like this at recycled cycles yesterday in Seattle

I have this exact same bike (frame) – same color, paint scheme & stickers (“Champion 5” on seat tube; “Tange” on fork).
Culled mine from a scrap-heap in Juneau, Ak. I see yours has a “Sunshine Sports, Anchorage Ak” sticker, which leads me to believe our bikes were probably purchased from the same AK shop.
Centurion’s mid-80’s touring bike (“Pro-Tour”) featured Champion 1 or 2, not 5.
Ours my be a Japanese off-brand like Zebra or Takara…hard to say…but it’s a good guess this is of mid-80’s (84-86) vintage.
