I just bought this old 26″ MTB in clean condition for a good price. Before I invest any time/money into it I’m wondering if it’s ok for short overnight trips in backcountry (Australia). Also not sure if it’s rack/mount equipped? (Noob post)

Pretty much any bike can be taken on an overnighter. I don’t know anything about the Australian backcountry in terms of terrain or conditions but from a gear point of view its going to possible.
I think those bolts on the outside of the seat stays are rack mounts and there will be some kind of bolt on point down by the axel to attach the lower part.
Check out this [bikepacking.com article about racks](https://bikepacking.com/index/rear-bike-racks-bikepacking/) as a good start point. You don’t need to spend a load of money in anything special, I have a Topeak Explorer rack that cost about £45 and has done me for many years.
