So I have an off brand e-bike from the Netherlands’s with a Bosch motor and decided to replace the chain since it’s got 2900km on it now.
The original chain was the shimano hg53 but the replacement was a decathlon knock off. After replacing the chain, the derailer kept binding up and pulling forward into the frame and then snapping back causing the chain to fall off. I ended up replacing the derailer with the original Shimano Alivio as well as the cassette. Neither of these additions helped my problem.
I ended up putting the old chain back on and now instead of the derailer binding up, the chain becomes tangled in the front chain ring.
Aside from all that, I’ve added and reduced the chain length thinking it may be that but still no resolution.
So my theory or question is, if everything is adjusted right, derailer is not bent, tuned properly, is the chain stretching and I need an e bike rated chain? I am really at a loss as to why the chain keeps falling off and looking for answers..
Help! My new chain keeps falling off! Is there a difference between a normal chain and e bike chain?
