Can’t fit the same rear suspension back

Hello,

I've spent all night trying to reinstall my RockShox Monarch RL rear suspension on my 2015 Trek Fuel EX5 after servicing it. I was able to remove it with a bit of force, but now it won't go back in, and the paint is chipping off from my attempts. What am I doing wrong?
