A little background. I’ve never owned a bike nicer than those Walmart bikes that go for $200. My old mountain bike broke and would have cost more to fix it than it was worth. I’m looking for a used bike that I can develop my skills as a rider with. I just need it to last until I’m finished with my education in 2 years and can afford a nice mtb or e-mtb. We don’t have any aggressive trails where I live but will be going over some large tree roots and some rocks at times. Let me know if I’m making a mistake here and I should increase my budget to get something with full suspension and a better front fork.

Check out Ozark Trail Ridge. Those bikes are just slightly above Walmart BSOs, and Ridge is a solid base — you can upgrade it with your skill progression.
