Today my bike started making some clicky, poppy, rattley noises when I peddle. My first thought is that it was from a loose chain (chain looks loose in this video and I tightened it afterwards with no improvement to the noise). Second thought is maybe something with the freecoaster, but I’m not sure how to troubleshoot the coaster. Nothing I could see externally that would be causing the issue. Thanks in advance!

What’s making this sound and how can I fix it?

What does it sound like with just the wheel spinning? If it’s only when you’re pedaling it could be a bottom bracket bearing. Or could be a hub bearing if it only makes the noise when coasting.

Just needs some lube, your chain prob just got a bit dry.

You’re just hearing the teeth of the chain connect individually. Fixed gears do this cause they use super burly chains & cogs, BMX do it cause a 9t freewheel is friggin tiny. There’s nothing wrong, almost all single speed bikes make this noise at least a little.

  3. I would check that the chain is inline and has some lube. Also that the teeth are all good on both the sprocket and driver. If that’s all good and it’s only while pedaling as you said take apart the bottom bracket and make sure the bearings spin smoothly. Does it make the noise back pedaling?
