  1. Yep! Air is getting around the tape somewhere. More overlap, more up the sidewalls (wider tape) better stem seal. It also looks like some carbon damage in the video by your thumb?

  2. One thing I like to do after fresh rim tape is to install a tube inside the tire and inflate, so the tape gets pressed down by the inflated tube.

    Helps set the tape.

  3. Using a base layer of electrical tape before the tubeless tape helps the tubeless tape stick and stay in position better.

It’s important to get the correct width for your rimtape.

Also when installing the rimtape you really have to pull it quite hard but at the same time wiggle it to get it seated all the way into the center channel.

Another trick I do is to double wrap it: I simply wrap it around the rim twice.

Avoid using tire levers over a spoke. They can damage the tape, which is only problematic if it damages the tape over a spoke hole

  6. Did the tyre seat? I had this happen too a few weeks ago. I retaped 4 times, really did my best cleaning and taping. I gave up, added sealant and the tyre held up perfectly ever since

High pressure and couple hops around the garage will likely solve this issue if its got fresh sealant

  8. I just stop bothering with tubeless and put inner tube and sealant inside it. Problem free since.

That’s correct….but the tubeless tape isnt sealing so it’s not building/holding pressure.

It’s more of a hack/bodge type fix for after the tubeless tape is already installed imperfectly without completely redoing it.

Personally, I got good at doing tubeless setups by screwing up a few of my own. Tubeless is great, but there’s a learning curve to it. If you’re totally reliant on a shop to fix any issues, expect to miss a day or three that you wanted to ride.

  10. I’m not sure how many times I’ve seen it, but a good rim tape job can be ruined with careless use of tire levers.

Try to install tires without levers, if possible, and if not, use extreme care to not disturb the rim tape with the levers.

Also, as others have said using a tube after adding new rim tape is a great way to make sure it’s well attached to the rim.
