  1. I flipped the back wheel over from freewheel to fixed today. Took it for a ride and felt an air space in the crank area when I pedal slowing down. Might this need to be tightened or is this normal?

It’s not the cranks, just your chain slack. I don’t see anything wrong with it tho, as long as your chain doesn’t fall it’s good to have a bit of slack.

    Edit: it’s normal.

  3. It will be from switching, having moved the rear wheel the chain tension will have changed, getting it pinpoint on the exact same spot in Ur dropout is near impossible.

if I where you id tighten it just a titch, get that slack down to 1.5 middlefingers in movement

(If you push ur middelfinger up to the chain you should be able to push it up around 1.5 middlefingers in diffrence)

It all comes down to preference, however keep in mind, too much slack and u run the risk of ur chain dropping and excessive sudden strain on the cog due to acceleration

To tight and youll encounter much more friction and wear to your chainring and cogs.

Happy riding buddy, wish you the best of luck on Ur journey 🙂

this is just the slack in the chain, since there’s no freewheel anymore it feels like there’s a hard stop when the chain is stretched out, its normal, you can reduce it by tightening up the slack in the chain

  5. Nobody wants to mention chains get stretched out as well? Probably not the culprit but a stretched out chain can make things like this worse. How many miles is on that chain?

  6. perfect chain tension. you want it to be like this where u can move your cranks back and forth, this has less friction than a tight chain.

you can try to lift the chain off the chainring with your finger and it should not come off. if you arent sure, just do this test and if it comes off with your hands then its too loose.
