Hello I ordered this Salsa Cassidy Carbon SLX bike. When it arrived it has a pretty deep gouge / chip in the frame. There is also another scratch / chip. I included 2 pictures. The weird part is that there was no damage to the protective packaging where the damage was.

Does picture 1 look like actual structural damage? I've never had a carbon bike and was a little worried about going with it to begin with.

What should I do in this case? Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated!

  1. Unless this was sold as ex-demo with slight damage, then it goes straight back for an exchange or refund. You wouldn’t accept a new car with chips and scratches, so why would you consider accepting this.

doesn’t matter if it’s structural, you paid for a new bike and got a damaged item. send it back

Feel your pain on that. I’d be asking for a replacement. You want at least one ride with a clean bike. I’d be gutted.

I emailed the pictures and a video to the shop. I called and followed up. They said they’re sold out of the model and Salsa was clearing out the new older stock so they won’t be getting anymore in at that crazy deal. It’s a holiday weekend and there aren’t any managers or web people in until Tuesday. He apologized and said he felt my pain and it was a bummer etc.

Ooof man it sucks so bad to be waiting this long and have this happen. I even set up a couple of rides for the holiday weekend with friends and family. Having to explain why I’m in my old hard tail and not on the new bike I’ve been hyping up is going to suck. I even invited my brother over for the unboxing…. What a kick in the nuts.

Down vote away but it is a bike . If you ride it rowdy its gonna get chipped scratched and wrecked. You are not hanging it on the wall.

  6. Ignore people who say to send it back, that’s stupid. Just message the seller and mention this, they wshould refund you some money, this way you avoid any hassle and get a discount. The bike will get scratched up anyway when you ride

Your next scratch or dent won’t be as painful when it happens……and it will happen. Use it up and throw it away.

I pro ordered a Salsa Blackthorn C XT and had very similar damage they pack shitty and the carrier they used ABUSED the box heavily. I just painted it up with closest matched nail polish and then ride wrapped the whole thing
