  1. Treated myself to a Wabi Thunder build project. It’s my first “nice” fixed gear. For the last 15 years, I’ve only ever ridden steel road bike conversions, which were great (but all had quirks).

    Opted for the Thunder because of the relaxed geo, the ability to throw on 38c+ tires, and the endless accessory mounting options. I’ve only put about 120 miles on it, and have had a some battles keeping chain tension (even dropped the chain once – you can see the gouges from the chain locking up on the crank), but I think I’ve solved those issues and am overall stoked on the bike.

    FTR, I know the frame’s big for me, but I’ve always had a preferences for taller frames and knowingly opted for 58 instead of 55. It honestly works perfectly.

    If anyone’s interested, key components are:

    * Wabi CX wheel set
    * Panaracer 38c gravelking slicks
    * Brooks swift saddle
    * Velo Orange headset / cantilever brakes / seat post / cable housing
    * Sugino crank
    * Customized titanium headset spacers
    * Public bikes porteur rack
