was a brakeless rider when i got the frame but have smartened up over the years. didnt want that to mean i had to lose the bike, so i invested in a dia-compe clip on front brake. the hardest part was realizing none of my handlebars could share brake levers, so i had to buy a lever for each bar -.-
after awhile i got a freewheel and a rear brake too…. got a normal road drop bar and some vintage levers so i can go full single speed if i want to. haven't done it since i built the setup, but i like that i have the option.

I’ve always run a front brake. Ultra clean aesthetics are not worth my life. There have been countless times a car has suddenly switched lanes without checking their blind spots. Also nice to easily scrub off speed when going down a steel hill!
NJS is meant for the track where everyone and everything is going the same speed and direction. Take it to the streets and whatever you need to ride safe is fair game. I rode f/r brakes on my Miyata Pista for a couple years as I rode with the local roadie bike club and they didn’t like the idea of being in the pack without brakes. Meaning: I needed them to keep from rear ending others who grab handfuls of brake lever for anything in the road instead of swerving around something.
No I don’t but I kinda want to put one on.
Love those handlebars. I had a Langster with those drops and it was stolen a decade ago and I am still wistful 🥲
