I'm interested in getting a fixed gear bike. I've never had one before. I've kind of settled on the Mash Steel because it has clearance for lighter gravel tires, which seems fun. I looked at some other bikes (Wabi Thunder, Squid So-EZ) as well. Main other option I looked at was the Crust Florida Man, which has huge clearance, but I don't really want to run MTB tires or 650b, so I can't decide if the bike is the wrong choice if I don't want that.

My current bike is an Aeroad in size XS. I find it a bit aggressive in fit, but I think it is the right size—I was on the border of XS and S on Canyon's sizer tool, and I think S would have been too big. I am looking for a less aggressive fit I think, since it's kind of a gravel bike.

From riding other bikes I think my size is generally a 52cm, though obviously brands differ sometimes. I had a 54cm bike and it was a bit too big. I accidentally rented a 50cm for a tour once (site was ambiguous on sizing) and it was a bit too small, but workable enough after I slid the saddle back.

The Mash frame comes in a 50cm and 53cm size, and I'm not sure which to get. The 50cm sounds like it would be too small, but

I have been comparing the geometries for the Aeroad and Mash.

  • The Mash in 53cm has 7mm less stack and 14mm more reach. Does that mean it's more aggressive than the Aeroad?
  • The 50cm has a lower stack (18mm), but shorter reach (8mm). Will that be too small?
