What is this curved piece of metal?

It’s a part that comes with Shimano front derailers. The metal thingy can be stuck on the frame so the adjustment screw doesn’t damage the frame. I don’t think it’s necessary on canyon bikes so they don’t use it in assembly. I think they toss it in the parts bag just to confuse people.
