Picked up a used road bike. It shifted okay but struggled to make it to some gears, so I figured it was fixable. Well I started trying to adjust the derailleurs and now it’s shifting worse than it ever has 😎 My issue is that the chain rubs the front derailleur when on the smallest chainring in front and biggest cog in the back. It also happens in the opposite scenario though, with the biggest chainring in front and smallest on the back. The front derailleur is bottoming out against the frame, I can’t move it any further away from the chain as the L limit screw is fully loose. It doesn’t look warped to my eye. I also have removed cable tension on the front derailleur. It started acting like this some time while I was adjusting the rear derailleur. Time to give up and take it to the shop?

My bet is the previous owner replaced the ~~square taper~~ bottom bracket with one that is too short for your application
The back end of the cage should be toed in slightly. If it isn’t that may be the problem
Maybe a small spacer on the drive side bottom bracket crank
Wrong chain line.
