My buddy and I started in Boston, MA and rode to Ellsworth, ME, with getting to Acadia National Park being the goal. With campground stops and routing, we did right around 320 miles total in 5 days. Our biggest day was about 90. And let me tell you, Maine has some HILLS. That was some awful, constant climbing. Felt like everywhere in the state was uphill both ways. Our last day was like 3400ft of incline.

The weather was great the first two days. Then came bad thunderstorms right along the coast, which were definitely inspired by the hurricanes. We had to pull off and wait a couple hours on the porch of an old post office (luckily it was Sunday). The thunder was so bad it set off a couple car alarms once, which I’d never seen before. Camp was wet, but doable. My sleeping bag was just damp enough that I couldn’t use it, though, so that was a chilly night. My quad was super strained the next day, and I wasn’t sure if I was gonna make it. I sent my buddy on ahead without me, and he got to camp and set up like 3-4hrs before me. Granted, I did stop to rest. Had the best burger of my life at a place called Two Maine Guys outside of Augusta.

We met up with my brother for the last day of riding, and we three finished the ride to Ellsworth to meet up with their wives and get to our hotels.

We then luckily had a pass to drive up Cadillac Mountain the next morning to catch the first sunrise in the US. It was beautiful. The park overall was super pretty. I’d love to go again when I’m not dying, lol.

If anyone’s interested in knowing, my bike is a Trek FX 2 Disc Stagger, I believe 2022 (I bought it new then). All I know about his is it’s a Specialized Sirrus, maybe 2015.
