I recently learned that these weeds are invasive, Russian Thistle. And, since it’s too late in the season, spraying won’t do anything because they have already flowered. So best course of action is to bag em out this year, and get a plan to spray next spring.

I appreciate the sentiment but if you have tumbleweeds (Russian thistle) growing your best bet is some other plant to take up their place. They certainly aren’t going away any time soon and will continue to be reintroduced for quite some time, if not forever.

In open desert, the desert pavement locks them out. Tumbleweeds grow where humans turn up the soil. They’re coming back. They are endemic. They are so emblematic of the West that I kind of find them reassuring. They’re not even that sharp either compared to the goat heads or the teddy bear cactus

  3. This thing get hilariously big even in the city. On windy days we will have some blown into traffic that are the size of a VW bug.
