Cycling to Ripon, North Yorkshire, where we search out Ripon’s former railway station, closed by Dr Beeching when he axed the Harrogate / Northallerton railway line. Is Ripon railway station still there?
If you like my videos, it’d be wonderful if you could buy me a coffee – thanks! https://buymeacoffee.com/bevmattocks.
Be sure to check out my bike ride videos and the other (mainly Yorkshire) cycle ride segments – ideal for use at the gym on an indoor trainer, exercise bike, treadmill, cross trainer, etc! Most are in Yorkshire, but some are in Lancashire, Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Derbyshire.

I can remember in the 1980s and 90s when the little garage was still there underneath the viaduct on the south side, roughly where the bungalow is in https://maps.app.goo.gl/LyYZfVEeojwRuFpY9 (between the spur off the Ripon Bypass and the dead-end road that used to be the route of the A61). There was also a black iron bridge over Bondgate https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=16.0&lat=54.13087&lon=-1.51115&layers=6&right=ESRIWorld roughly where the more northerly of the double roundabouts is.
Ripon is a lot better with its bypass, but it's a shame they had to use the trackbed of the old railway, thus putting out of use for all time if there ever happened to be a reverse-Beeching process.
I'm too young to remember Ripon station, but it probably wouldn't have been closed long when my mum first took my sister and me to see some friends in Ripon. (I remember the day well because she accidentally put 2* instead of 4* petrol in her Morris Minor at the garage at Pannall and poor Moggie pinked all the way up the hill into Harrogate and all the way to Ripon. I was at an age when the sound of words like "pinked" (and "girder" and "bubble") made me giggle.)
