I recently got a crankset with a used fixed gear bike and planned to upgrade the chainring to a 52T and polish the whole set to a mirror finish. However, removing the chainring bolts turned out to be a real pain. First, I had to heat the bolts multiple times with a propane torch. The bolt removal tool needed significant modification because the screws were too long, preventing the tool from fully gripping their edges. Second, I had to apply an extreme amount of force to stabilize the tool while using an Allen wrench on the other side. I also had to frequently use a flat needle file to sand down the tool, as its edges kept chipping.

I have no idea who designed this locking system, but from my point of view, it’s terrible. I can't understand why SRAM used such strong Loctite on this product. I managed to remove four bolts using this method, but the last bolt was particularly stubborn. I had to file away the inner part of the screw with a round needle file and then use pliers to grip the edge before unscrewing it with the removal tool—after two hours of filing. The entire process was intense, and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get them all out.
