Looking to get my first gravel bike, coming from mtb world. Wanting to hit longer mixed terrain rides (50-100mi), and want to sign up for some races next season but like the idea of bikepacking too.
Checkpoint is on my radar (I’m an employee so pretty much set on Trek bc of discount) and am seeking some opinions on the pros/cons of the listed models.
-Gen 2 ALR5 Driftless
Alloy frame
Carbon fork
Paradigm alloy wheels
1×11 GRX
Love the color, worried that I’ll have FOMO on carbon frame and the 1×11 might be limiting. Never had e-shifting tho so GRX is reliable in my mind.
-Gen 3 SL6
Carbon frame
Carbon fork
Paradigm alloy wheels
1×12 Rival AXS
Colors kinda suck imo, wider tire clearance, more relaxed geo (slacker, shorter reach). Skeptical of e-shifting but I read great things on it.
I like to ride the line of value/performance. I hate to get a bike that leaves me wanting more. Is the more aggressive geo of the Gen 2 going to a benefit if I get into racing? Is the carbon frame and electronic drivetrain worth the extra money? Please help my over-analytical mind settle down.
