Hello,
Yesterday I was in a collision with a car (the driver was on their phone and turned right into the oncoming lane that I was traveling down. I had nowhere to go but over the bonnet). The police are currently reviewing liability but hinted the driver would be found fully liable.
I'm taking my Grizl to a Canyon partner tomorrow then to review the damage. My fork is cracked, so I'm certain it will need replacing. However, on inspection today, I noticed the asymmetric frame for the first time, and I'm now wondering whether my frame is bent or the rear wheel not true. The tyre is rubbing on the chain stay and the wheel looks very offset within the frame, although the rotor and cassette seem aligned with the disc brake caliper and drive chain respectively.
How damaged is my Grizl? Please see the pictures. I'm hoping the driver's insurance will cover the cost of getting it usable again.

Tbh looks like a complete write-off.
that frame is toast.
Get the insurance money for the bike and get yourself checked out as well.
Thanks all. That’s good feedback ahead of the review with the partner. I did fear the worse. It looks like I need to claim for a full new bike.
I was taken to hospital and pretty beaten up, but nothing long lasting hopefully. A bust up knee and some road rash. Not bad considering I was thrown over the bonnet.
Bust up knee and over the bonnet – that’s some personal injury claim there on top of the bike. Feck you can get 5k compo just for whiplash if some bumps you in a car, smacked up knee and free bonnet flight id be pressing for some hefty compensation.
Might want to look into a local bike lawyer – may help you not get nickel and dimed by the driver’s insurance company when you try to make a claim with them.
Put some tape on it , nobody Will notice
Bin it
Def get the car owners insurance to pay up, for everything. Have a bike shop “confirm” your bike is totaled, and then show the insurance how much your bike cost and get a new one once they pay up.
happened to me similarly a couple years ago: car at a crossroad went through red lights and turned straight into me as I was cycling through the crossroad coming from the opposite side, sending me superman airborn over 10m and landed on my hands and helmet (couple of operations were subsequently required). Bike slid underneath the front wheels of the SUV. Lucky I wasn’t using clipless, I’d probably have ended up squished too.
Vintage peugeot racing aluminium frame from the 90ies was totalled on the spot. RIP magnificient bike.
Hope Op’s health is good / will get better soon.
As for the bike, I wouldn’t risk anything. There is probably much more damage than can be visually assessed. Get the fucker’s insurance to cover the replacement of your bike (including price increases for today’s equivalent)
Do you have auto insurance? If so, go through them even though you weren’t driving a car because part of your premium is paying for them to negotiate on your behalf. Do this for both medical and property. You shouldn’t negotiate with the other party’s insurance company directly if you don’t have the experience doing so. They will do anything they can to minimize their financial responsibilities. I also recommend not going with an accident attorney. Make sure you also get a copy of the police report. If it says that the other party is 100% at fault then that’s your golden ticket. The other party’s insurance policy will have financial amounts for both property and medical expenses so you can get taken care of.
Get that bike written off, remove all the intact components and put them on a quality chines carbon frame, such as ICAN, Winspace, Elves, etc. for a good second bike. Then go and buy something really nice from the insurance money.
Glad you are alright.
