As part of my earlier trip to Tokyo in 2024, I attempted a solo 200km ride around Tokyo bay. Had some navigational issues due to my Garmin not loading the maps, and some poor route planning in the first 40km of my ride, but I completed it within my self-allocated time frame, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it all.
As I’m not able to include photo captions from the Reddit iOS app now, here’s a breakdown of each photo I’ve attached:
- Strava breakdown of the ride
- Assembling bike in hotel room
- Ride ‘nutrition’
- Empty Ikebukuro roads at 5am
- Garmin crapping out on me
- Never seen Ginza so deserted
- Caught a late sunrise photo while crossing over the first major bridge of the ride
- Tokyo Disney Resort!
- First rest stop after four hours of riding
- This is basically all my Garmin would show for the entire ride, and I’d have to guess which street/road I would have to take
- Visited this strange and crazy, yet awesome observation platform structure
- View from the top
- Random old JR train station
- Finally reached the ferry terminal to bring me over to the other side of Tokyo Bay
- Kinda worried about how the ferry staff ‘secured’ my bike (spoiler: it survived)
- Food and drinks on board!
- Made it to Yokohama; not far from endpoint now
- Iconic Yokohama Ferris wheel, and Yokohama Landmark Tower in the background
- What Japan trip would be complete without a visit to Don Quijote?
- Made it!
