When ever I stop pedaling, my chain gets caught on the derailleur and pulls the derailleur forward. This has caused the chain to come off the rear gear set.
From what you’re describing, sounds like your freewheel is toast. If you take the rear wheel off the bike, can you spin the gears by hand smoothly? If it’s catching or it feels like it’s grinding, then that’s what the issue is and it needs to be replaced. A 6 speed freewheel is pretty cheap, but you will need a [freewheel removal tool](https://www.parktool.com/en-us/product/freewheel-remover-fr-1-3?category=Cassette+%26+Freewheel) to do it, also not super expensive, or take it to your LBS and they should be able to do it on the spot for you. When you replace the freewheel, replace the chain at the same time! Chain’s probably worn and if you want to prolong the life of your new freewheel, a new chain will keep it from slipping under load or wearing prematurely
Like other guy says do free wheel stuff or lay into it as deep as you can with brake cleaner till it spins like norman then pack grease into the workings it as if it were a lover you hadn’t seen since sharkboy and tornado girl.
Are you sure your chain isn’t damaged and catching on the teeth of the freewheel? I’d rule out the chain first. When it grabs again, make note of which link it is, and inspect it closely. Or the freewheel could just be be busted, but check the chain first
