Hi all,
Just finished assembling my fourth bike (and my first mtb) and just joined the sub.
It is primarily thought as a bikepacking bike to go where my gravel bike would suffer but I'd also like to do some trail riding. It is a heavy bike for today's standard but I'm a tall, heavy guy and don't really care lol.
I want to learn some skills to be able to clear obstacles and handle my bike with confidence while climbing and to be safe while having fun on descents. I hope I can learn from this reddit
Cheers!

  1. Welcome, and that’s a good looking bike! I would say try to learn to bunny hop, front wheel lifts etc. Learn body positioning and where your weight should be when going over or down obstacles. Practice and it will eventually click for you. Have fun on the trails!

  2. That must indeed be heavy as today’s bikes are pretty much fat pigs, though extremely capable ones! My first mountain bike 30 years ago was a right porker at 27 pounds…

  3. Ebikes weigh like 50 pounds so this isn’t even that bad lol. I started with a rigid MTB on gravel roads and xc trails and gradually worked my way up to rowdier trails over the years.
