Join me for a look ahead to the Premier League season for a discussion about all things Newcastle United. Where will they finish? What constitutes success? Are you looking forward to it?
I have total faith in the Newc ownerships commitment to invest as much as is possible/permissable into the club, on an ongoing basis.
Therfore I see any criticism of Newc policy/activity as based on perception of the best strategy for now and into the future.
On that basis I am surprised that there has not been a big investment into the Playing squad this window.
As far as I can understand we are into a new 3 year cycle of PSR. In the first 3 years there has been an incredible investment and most of it excellent. We now have the core of an excellent team that are young enough to take us forward for 5 to 10ys and Howe has proved that he excells at getting the very best out of his squads. So I don't understand why we are not moving forward to invest in those remaining areas that would take us to the next level, top 4 and beyond. Minus say the odd £60 million overspend!?
Feels like an opportunity missed. Is this all down to the change of key strategic staff holding development up as they get on board and influence the direction of travel?
If so this seems like a bad mistake to me. Having said that the window is still open….
