Just ordered the next size larger toe clip seemed like my foot was too far back. Any recommendations on shoes? Went with these cause they have more cushion than running shoes. Was thinking about giving my old chuck Taylor’s a try.

Are you riding single speed with brakes? You could try riding without the toe clips to see if it’s actually the toe clips or if it’s shoes or foot position causing the problem. If that works out fine, and you can narrow it down to the toe clips being the problem, then you can adjust the straps so your feet fit securely in the same place they did when you were riding without the toe clips and your toes didn’t go numb.

Looks like you’ve already found the clips were too small, I’d hanker the straps are too small too. Take a look at r/fixedgearbicycle for what is normally used – three inch thick straps, double leather style, etc. Just like pedals, the more surface areas you can get on the straps the less pressure your foot will feel.

I never liked these, regular velcro straps work better for me

If the toe box is constricting, bend the cage or remove the padding. Otherwise, they don’t need to clench tight.
I’ve run them w/o straps, but ultimately I ride platforms because I slide my foot front to back depending on the cadence and power delivery. But I see you have gears….

You need a shoe with a super stiff sole. Outside of a dedicated cycling shoe, ive found trail runners are your best bet for a stiff soled shoe that still allows athletic movement of the ankle joint.
