Hey, I haven't bmx'd in almost 10 years. Today I was browsing this subreddit and got the itch to bmx again. Basically I'm asking for some resources and guides on how to build my (Haro) bike back up again as well as keeping the replacement parts fairly cheap. Any comment or help is greatly appreciated 😎

1st picture you see, I have no chain which is the biggest issue right now. The last picture shows that I have a half link chain I tried to put on during covid and got as far as down the street before it snapped because I cut it one link or 2, too short. Through research I'm seen mostly everyone say don't buy a half link chain. So my 1st question is, Do I struggle to attach an extra link to the chain(all my chain breakers just keep… breaking.) or just go for a new one?

2nd question and the 4th picture is my pedal and cranks that I'd like to keep. The left one goes in fine, while the right pedal doesn't fully tighten into the grooves (it stays on but feels like I would snap it on a 180 attempt 🤣) I don't mind replacing the pedals and cranks but the bottom bracket is from the ancient times and idk what it's even called. My question is, is there some sort of way to fix the end of the grooves being stripped? If not, where would I find cranks/pedals/bottom bracket that would fit a mid 2000's Haro?

Tl;dr I would totally but a brand new bmx but I'm kindda attached nostalgically to this bike and wanna bring it back to life.

Additional questions I have would be.

My back rim is also warped I'm wondering if Dan's comp is still the website. Or sourcebmx or something (I'm in Ontario, but don't mind paying the extra shipping from other countries) also the headset or whatever it's called that holds the bars. Keeps coming loose. I've tightened it as much as I can so I'm wondering if I should get a new headset that would fit the Haro inner fork and headset thing.

Lastly sorry if this was too long and if I didn't provide enough pictures or asked stupid questions.

2nd Tl;dr 30 year old who peaked at a 360 tire tap in 2011 wants to hurt his body more by trying to get back into bmx again.

  1. Half links are perfectly fine, but they’re a bit 50/50 for opinions. You can fit them with a regular chain tool but you have to be much more precise and careful, it’s why it’s advised to use a half link tool to aid fitting, and yes like any other chain you can links back on. Crank wise, it’s a usa bb so any crankset in 19 and 22mm axle will fit with a usa sealed bb kit. As for your right hand pedal, if it’s not going further in it needs the thread either chasing out in the arm, or running a tap down it, however that’s not a service or item every bike shop can offer.
Obviously nostalgia plays its part, as it does for many with older bikes on here, but tbh other than its being special to you, it’s not a high end or desirable bike as such, check fb marketplace for deals to be had on a much newer and better specced bike for not a lot of cash is probably the way to go, however I totally get you want to resurrect your old bike.
