Richard Carapaz completed his grand tour set by winning stage 17 of the Tour de France.
The Ecuadorian saw off Simon Yates in second and Enric Mas in third to complete a solo victory from a large breakaway.
EF Education EasyPost opened this year’s Tour de France account at the top of the Superdévoluy climb while the top three in the General Classification continued their skirmishes.
Remco Evenepoel was the unlikely victor, attacking away from Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard to close the gap to the Dane by 12 seconds.
Vingegaard showed weakness by blowing up after a Pogacar attack on the penultimate climb, but Evenepoel took advantage of the leading duo overall watching each other.
